Photographs and text by Gray Williams

Introduction by Kenneth T. Jackson, Jacques Barzun Professor of History and Social Sciences at Columbia University and President of the New-York Historical Society

More than four years have gone into the preparation of this lavishly illustrated panorama of Westchester history, organized around the more than 165 sites in the National Register of Historic Places.

Eleven by eleven inches in size, 492 pages in length, the book contains 615 illustrations, 275 of which are new full-color photographs. Utilizing evocative historical illustrations, and a lively accompanying text, Gray Williams takes you on a tour of the county's rich and diverse past, beginning with the great manors of Colonial times and ending with such 20th-century landmarks as Playland and Caramoor.

Every city, town and village in the county is represented. The sites range from the familiar, such as Lyndhurst and Sunnyside, to the less well known, such as the public bath houses in Yonkers and the African American Stony Hill Cemetery in Harrison.
