Westchester County's Virtual Archives

This pilot project focusses on the Civil War era in Westchester, making available public and private documents gathered from local government offices, historical societies, and private sources.

Documenting the Past

A set of 12 large posters illustrating primary sources on various aspects of colonial and Revolutionary Westchester, including a Native American deed for land in Bedford, a bill of sale for a slave and a manumission document, an account book from a general store, a sampler stitched by a six-year-old girl in 1774, a first-hand account of the Battle of White Plains from a contemporary Connecticut newspaper, and others. A teacher's guide includes vocabulary, transcriptions of the documents and suggested questions for students. $25.00
