Statement of Policy on Rights and Permissions

1. Permission to reproduce materials for publication from the collection of the Westchester County Historical Society may be requested by making written application to the Library using the form provided.
2. All photographic prints must be made by WCHS. Individuals are not allowed to make photographs of any part of the WCHS collection with personal cameras.
3. It is the policy of the WCHS to charge a fee for the commercial publication or media reproduction of each item from its collection. Reproduction fees are separate from all photo-duplication costs and are payable along with them. Fees for the reproduction of a large number of items may be negotiated. There is no fee for the use of quotations or for cited material from the collection.
4. WE MUST CAUTION YOU THAT THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OWNS REPRODUCTION RIGHTS TO ONLY SOME OF THE MATERIAL IN ITS COLLECTION. REPRODUCTION FOR PUBLIC USE, THEREFORE, IS SUBJECT TO YOUR SECURING PERMISSION FROM PERSONS, CORPORATIONS, OR OTHER LEGAL ENTITIES WHICH MAY OWN OR CLAIM SUCH RIGHTS UNDER STATUTORY OR COMMON LAW. ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR QUESTIONS OF COPYRIGHT THAT MAY ARISE IN THE USE MADE OF COPIES OF OUR MATERIAL MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A LETTER OF PERMISSION FROM THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY.
5. A credit line is required, as follows: Westchester County Historical Society.
6. In requesting permission to reproduce a copy of the item or items described on the form provided, the undersigned agrees to hold harmless the Westchester County Historical Society from any action involving infringement of the rights of an author or illustrator or his heirs or descendants in common law or under statutory copyright.
7. WCHS will receive a complimentary copy of any publication in which its images appear.

• Scanned images cost $15.00 per image. Images will be scanned at 300dpi to a CD. • Prices do not include NYS sales tax (7.375%) which must be included. • Please specify when ordering print whether you would like a matte or glossy finish. • Payment is required in advance. • Any size not listed on this form is a special order – prices available upon request. • Images may not be reprinted in any way without the written consent of the Westchester County Historical Society.
Flat fees for use in the following:
Calendars, books, book jackets, greeting cards, post cards, brochures, film, television programs, stationery, gift paper:					$100

Application for permission to reproduce for public use:

After a selection has been chosen by the individual or firm, a letter accompanied by this form requesting permission to reproduce should be addressed to the Library, Westchester County Historical Society, 2199 Saw Mill River Road, Elmsford, NY 10523.

Please allow reasonable time for reproduction after your request has been approved. Rush requests will only be attempted in cases of film, television and imminent publication. Rush accommodations are not guaranteed by WCHS.
